  • Mysterious Illness Hits near Oranjestad village of Monon

    World Health Organization officials said Friday that they are investigating a troubling report out of Oranjestad of a “cluster of unexplained illnesses and deaths” in an area just outside of Monon, on the far east side of Oranjestad.

    Since April 24, at least 17 people have fallen ill with fever, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and have exhibited extreme violent tendencies. Eleven have died and five are still hospitalized at Saint God's Hospital in Oranjestad. While the symptoms appear to mimic those of Ebola in the early stages, specimens analyzed from seven of the people who died came back negative for the virus. This illness also seems infect all life, not just humans - since the deaths occurred, two trees died outside of Third Eye Church in Monon, and there are no insect noises to be heard in the Monon area.

    The WHO said rapid-response teams from the WHO, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other partners have been sent to the area and are looking into reports that each of the victims may have attended the funeral of a religious leader in the distant, recently resettled village of Jarreau.

    “Further testing is underway to find out the cause of the illness and deaths,” the WHO said in a statement. “The investigation teams will try to find if this could be in relation to the consumption of same food and drinks and if there is an environmental exposure to some chemicals or bacteria.”

  • Ye Olde Shire Farmer's Almanac Presents: Mr. Wolf 2016 Facts/Lore/Predictions

    Mr. Wolf is a beneficial, albeit misunderstood, creature that preys on bothersome builds. Explore Mr. Wolf facts and folklore, and learn why you should have him in your part of the world.

    Mr. Wolf eats primarily subpar, abandoned, and forgotten half-builds that hold no value.

    Because of his voracious appetite for these junky plots, Mr. Wolf is considered a friend to farmers and builders as a supernatural form of pest control.

    Mr. Wolf's preference is for the disruptive, forgotten, junky builds that do the greatest damage to the local ambiance and environment.

    • Mr. Wolf is able to fly.
    • Mr. Wolf has a giant head with large, compound eyes to spot even the smallest bad build.
    • His long, flexible neck bends easily, allowing them to turn his head 180° from side to side, giving him a 300° field of vision.
    • The strange stance he's rumored to have (gunpowder in one hand and an arrow in the other) is the position the fierce predator takes while waiting to ambush bad builds.
    • Mr. Wolf is responsible for clearing hundreds of builds. If he is doing his job right, players will hardly notice any changes, but will only benefit from the cohesive, curated, beautiful world he's left in his wake.
    • A master of disguise, Mr. Wolf is known to take on the color of his habitat. He may mimic leaves, twigs, and grass - often passing unnoticed by upstanding Shirelings.
    • Mr. Wolf has been known to purge builds from every region.

    The Gong-Chengshi once thought that Mr. Wolf would point a lost child home.

    In some parts of the Demmatrodine, it is considered good luck if Mr. Wolf lands on you.

    As with many of nature’s predators, the hunters often become the hunted. Mr. Wolf's natural enemies include Lords, Players that suddenly return and demand we restore their build even though they've been gone for like a year, and flagrant system errors.

    This year, expect the Mr. Wolf season to start in September and may last through December. We're predicting a turbulent season due to the large influx of players that occurred in July. You can AVOID Mr. Wolf by:

    • LABELING YOUR PROJECT W/ SIGNS - Be sure to include your name.  Mr. Wolf ignores builds built by individuals he knows are at least semi-active.
    • BUILDING WELL - Remember, only poorly made, unfinished builds are removed
    • BUILDING ENOUGH TO EARN A WORLDGUARD REGION - If it's got a region, Mr. Wolf will avoid it completely. He preys mainly on isolated, abandoned, single buildings.

  • Mainland Renewal

    If you've been on in the past two or three weeks, you may have seen the extensive Mainland update/refurb project.

    The spawn has continuously been renewed over the years, but now we're expanding this renewal to cover a much wider portion of the Mainland. Considering the history here (dating to 2010), it's a sensitive area and not only needs to be refreshed but also protected. I wanted to open this discussion to get everyone's input and thoughts as we move forward on this. So far, the thought is to revitalize each distinct neighborhood with its own unique palette. Smoot has been developing palettes for each area.

    What's Changed so Far?

    Shiredale - a former working class neighborhood in the northeast Mainland, was bulldozed and completely gentrified. The wealthy elite reside here now. In actuality, the area was filled with copy/pasted houses from Bloodmist and never really developed beyond filler. It's been completely revamped by Smoot, Spaicol, and a little by me. I tried to keep up but those two are wicked fast.

    Shire Heights - directly south of Shiredale. I bulldozed three empty buildings I made - they just sat there collecting dust for like 7 years, looking dated. The rest of the buildings were refreshed (exteriors only!) with a lovely light wood and prismarine theme. Smoot added two or three new buildings as well.

    Central District - Castle Wolfen-Neb was completely revitalized, including the interior. Two businesses I made years ago on the plaza were bulldozed and replaced with modern buildings by Smoot, and there are several others marked for demo. The rest of the buildings basically just had a paint job; new brick roofs and new siding.

    Spawn - Enderp & Co. is going beast mode on remaking the spawn village and recreating the Promotion Theatre.

    What About all the unique historical artifacts?

    They're still there! Ctshiner's underground whore house is still there (kudos to anyone who finds it), the Chamber of Souls and the sewer system is more accessible than ever, all the weird creepy tunnels are still there and still connect back to Castle Wolfen-Neb, the quirky building names and street signs are all preserved. Dendrago's tower from early 2011 was relocated half a block north. Shanver722's Chill Tower is still there (I reskinned it). The graffiti in Willam's Tunnel, the "x was here" signs on the way up to Castle Wolfen-Neb's tower, The undermarket, Gavinh9's pot-infused ice cream shop, the homeless encampment, the Occupy Shire camp, the Merk Manor Wailing Wall...... all still there.

    What's lost: Cobble. Lots and lots of hand-mined cobble from long before Creative was a thing. Waldo's Party Supply was bulldozed. The Weapon shop on the plaza was bulldozed. The Shire Hospital was bulldozed (it was just a big empty hideous building that I stole from Lamename Village). *hey btw we could use a new medical building in the Mainland sometime...

    What's Next?

    Central still has a long way to go, including new roads, new exterior upgrades, and a few spots for new buildings. LOTS of buildings in Shiredale, Shire Heights, and Central are in need of INteriors.

    After Central, we have options, and I'd love to hear everyone's input. Take a look at the image below. These are all potential areas that could be refreshed at differing scales. Starred are already redeveloped or are in the midst of redevelopment:

    1 = Spawn* (Spawn Village? Is there a name for it?)

    2 = Central District* | Brick, Stone, Jungle Wood

    3 = Shiredale* | Dark Prismarine, Spruce

    4 = Shire Heights* | Prismarine Brick

    5 = Shai-Town | East Asian themed. This could be a really fun and challenging area to refresh

    6 = Brandywine Village | Working class area. Needs a lot of work

    7 = That Area Between Odd Facade, Polaris Mall, and Temple District... | A lot of these buildings were copy/paste placeholder buildings. This could be a great area for a lot of new projects.

    8 = Temple District

    9 = Bree | Probably won't refresh this one much, it's such a classic... maybe the roads? Thoughts?

    10 = Two Bridges/Alpha Pyramid/Schaufensterpuppen | Mostly new already, not a ton to do except interiors and landscaping.

    11 = Herman B Wells Library, Mainland Offices

    12 = Dukedom area

    Please share your thoughts, concerns, ideas about everything. We want to balance nostalgia and progress and don't want to see anything of value lost during the process.

    *And a quick sorry to Jimmy, Enderp, Smoot, and whoever else was already refreshing the area before I jumped in - not trying to step on any toes! Just trying to keep it organized.

  • BREAKING: NSE To Begin Talks To Grant Caffan Autonomy

  • Monon Plague spreads; Oranjestad neighborhoods under quarantine

    The so-called Monon Plague is continuing its devastating advance through Oranjestad territories. Lord Nebbers has issued quarantine orders for large swaths of the city, forbidding travel to and from Skylan, Irvington, Pennsy, Monon, and Brutalpest College. CDC inspection points have been placed along all roads in and out of the city as well, hoping to prevent the spread of the disease to other nations.

    Early Sunday morning, the CDC lost contact with a checkpoint near Milliput Farm. A detachment of Oranjestad troops were dispatched Sunday evening to make contact but have not been heard from since.

    The Monon Plague is thought to have originated in the jungle island village of Jarreau, long a bastion of the fanatical Third Eye cult movement. Last week, spiritual leader Al Jarreau Jr. passed away during a religious ceremony. His son, Al Jarreau the Third, was immediately declared the spiritual successor. Since then, there has been no communication with the village.

    As it is not yet known of the disease is spread, CDC officials are advising all residents to stay indoors, avoid contact with other people, and report any unusual behavior. Infected residents may exhibit foaming of the mouth and violence toward healthy individuals.

    Padme Amidala - Equos: So this is how health and wellness dies w- with thunderous applause.

    Sergio Georgini - Skylan: At least we still have Internet. Keep my in quarantine for as long as you want!

    Donald Sutherplace - Emerald City: Mark my words, Oranjestad will collapse and be sold for scrap in a months time!

  • Shire Census 2016

    Believe me folks - the Shire is a total disaster right now because of Crooked Morris. We're going to build a wall to keep folks like Morris out of the Shire.  Believe me folks, it will be a yuge wall, and we'll make Morris pay for it. We're going to make the Shire great again. #MorrisForPrison2016 #10FeetHigher #AllAboardTheNebTrain #MTSGA

  • Immigrants Overwhelm Community

    The world was shocked on June 23rd when the Shire was suddenly flooded with thousands of refugees from defunct, sub-par, and mismanaged servers, after a tourist's photo album of Shire landmarks was published online.  The photos showed a virtual Promised Land - a world of stability, of beauty, of peace and friendship. The Shire's people, despite their small and tight-knit community, welcomed the refugees with open arms...

    I wanted to document the various bits of press we received this past week - here are the articles and posts I've found so far!

    The Video Unilad linked (went from 100 views to 100,000 in two days):

  • Belthil Breaks From Oranjestad over recent Shireleaks documents

    Belthil, Mainland Suburbs:

    Belthil said Monday that it was dissolving the political union with Oranjestad after a recent ShireLeaks document dump. The Shireleak documents showed it was Oranjestad, not Fulfwotz as previously reported, that was attempting to silence outspoken Oranjestad critic Julian Melange. The Aboite native is currently living under political asylum in Belthil.

    Various Oranjestad officials and pundits have made threatening statements directed at Melange in the past. ShireLeaks tweeted in early October an alleged 2010 quote from then-Secretary of State Killary Pepe asking if Melange could be killed in a drone strike, and, that same year, former Oranjestad strategist Rob Peckel said on Oranje TV that "a dead man can't leak stuff." This month, "specific information" prompted Melange to scrap a dramatic Belthil Tower balcony address to celebrate ShireLeaks' 10th anniversary.

    Melange also has hinted that deceased Oranjestad staffer Seth Rich may have been a secret source for ShireLeaks. Rich, 27, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to the back at an Alpha Beach intersection in July. He died soon thereafter. Authorities believe Rich was the target of a botched robbery; however, odd circumstances surrounding his death have invited conspiracy theories.

    The controversial anti-secrecy website has been busy in October, methodically releasing a trove of emails allegedly stolen from the gmail account of Oranjestad's Chief Director of Intelligence John Odesta. ShireLeaks had released just more than 12,000 emails of a purported 50,000 they have access to as of Monday morning. The Odesta emails have raised questions about a too-cozy working relationship between the Oranje County government and some members of the media and has also shed light on how Nebbers' team handled various scandals.

    The latest leaks suggest Oranjestad was responsible for for Belthil's city-wide power outage 4 months ago and the massive Internet outage that occurred in 2015. Belthil has reported numerous massive data breaches in the past from an unknown state - the new leaks seem to answer who was responsible for these attacks.

    "Oranjestad has used and abused us long before we were an Associated State - all in an effort to control us and silence Mr. Melange. Our investigators are now reviewing the vote to become an Oranjestad Associate State - we expect to find a manipulated voter tally.

    Oranjestad officials were not available for comment.
