CEO Of Philanthropa Imperatia Miranda Howl Arrested For Misuse Of Charitable Funds

Options
FULFWOTZ- The CEO of Philanthropa Imperatia, Miranda Howl, was arrested this afternoon at the organization's headquarters in Capitolae. She has been implicated in the deliberate misuse and politicization of charitable funds.

The investigation into Philanthropa Imperatia, the charity organization of Emperor Sammus, began several weeks ago after an anonymous whistleblower directly accused the Emperor of routing significant sums of money through the charity and the First Imperial Alliance, a separate tripartisan association which provides funding to upstart political candidates across the New Sammichian Empire, to put First Monarchy Party candidates in office in the upcoming Assembly election. Emperor Sammus was immediately placed under house arrest at Castle Mugg and suspended from his powers as the investigation proceeded.

The direction of the case shifted early this week, however, after the Justices of the Imperial Supercourt began preemptively reviewing the details of the investigation ahead of their hearing scheduled for next Monday. At the behest of Justice Sisenna vos Paxae, the hard drives of Philanthropa Imperatia's Board of Directors were seized and searched. A shocking discovery was made when hundreds of documents were found on the computer of CEO Miranda Howl outlining plans to funnel over $20 million to FMP candidates, with the intent of then using an FMP majority to secure more funding for the organization and significantly higher salaries for its Board of Directors.

Soon after her arrest, the Office of the Emperor released a brief statement:

"We commend the work of the investigators in this case, and are confident that justice will be brought to those responsible for this gross misuse of charitable funds. As Chairman of the Board, the Emperor has always strived to ensure that Philanthropa Imperatia serves the common Imperial citizen and those in need. Although he is no longer the prime suspect in this case, the Emperor views the situation with profound regret and recognizes his role in allowing this to happen by not exercising enough scrutiny in his management of the organization. In order to provide recompense to those who may have been indirectly harmed by the malicious misuse of funds, the Emperor is donating a total of $35 million to Philanthropa Imperatia."

Mrs. Howl's attorney Lerco Calthidae affirms her innocence, and hopes that justice will "come to those who truly deserve it" at Monday's hearing at the Imperial Supercourt.

Sorry, Sammus Analysis by Kalique Kapoor

It's not often that the occasion arises where one owes the Emperor an apology.

Shirefolk almost unanimously believed him to be the culprit and took the story at face value, without considering that a whistleblower isn't always honest nor accurate. Were it not for the suggestion of Justice Sisenna vos Paxae, it's highly likely that either the authorities would lack sufficient evidence to tie him to the crime, or he would be punished for Mrs. Miranda Howl's misdeeds, albeit, the latter seems quite unlikely. He's held on for this long; what makes you think a messy laundering scheme would be the final straw that knocks him off?

Although he's still suspended from his powers, if the Imperial Supercourt rules Miranda Howl guilty on Monday, we can expect them to be restored by the Ministry of Justice soon after.

In the NSE, it's perfectly legal for any individual and organization to contribute unlimited sums of money to political candidates, yet that provision does not extend to charitable organizations, whose funds are to be strictly used for their intended purposes. Were Philanthropa Imperatia a normal company, it would have been fine and dandy for them to give donations directly to their FMP candidates, stack the Assembly, and call it a day. Unfortunately, that isn't the reality of the situation; instead, the reality is one where Miranda Howl made a mockery of both the Emperor and his charity. If she's found guilty, there will certainly be a price to pay.
