FULFWOTZ-Voting booths opened this week across the NSE as the country prepares for a new High Chancellor to take office.
This emergency election follows the unexpected resignation of High Chancellor Kiera C. Krugerrand in early April, amidst allegations of electoral fraud and an investigation by the Office of the Imperial Ethics Marshal. Emails leaked by her former assistant implicate her in a scheme to manipulate voter counts in her favor. She has received an intense backlash from the Imperial community, as her victory came as a shock to many due to her family's history and perceived unpopularity with the majority of Imperial citizens.
The investigation into Mrs. Krugerrand is currently ongoing, and at the request of the Supreme Justice Edmund Winderotter of the Imperial Supercourt, her future trial will not be televised. In the New Sammichian Empire, most high-profile trials are heavily publicized and followed closely by the public. Leading government officials have remained quiet on their opinions of the investigation; a statement from the Emperor typically precedes such activity, and the Office of the Emperor has been silent on the matter.
A brief two weeks of campaigning in key locations across the Empire have ended for the three Chancelleric hopefuls. Among them are Dago Vueres (FMP), Zeena K. Ritz-Khalifa (UPP), and Stephen Savoy (CCP). Current polls project a victory for Chancellery all-star Vueres, with Ritz-Khalifa following closely behind on a platform of law and order for the crime-ridden urban centers of the Empire. However, Savoy remains extremely popular in conservative Caffa, thanks to his business interests in the city and support for a second Caffan Referendum bill, something Vueres is adamantly opposed to. Expanded dossiers on the candidates can be found here.
